On the night of January 8th, Kiwanis, Circle K, and Key Club of the I-I district gathered together for Circle K’s Finest Project: Holiday Embrace. During this duo of a dinner and dance, the object of the gathering was to fundraise for Spastics Paralysis. To help the fundraiser, a silent auction was held in which the attendees could bid on baskets filled with awesome things (scrapbooking materials, movie night necessities, etc.) or on paintings created by members of Circle K. The dinner was delicious, and the dance was fantastic! Holiday Embrace was the perfect place to have fun on a Saturday night. On top of all that awesomeness, attendees of this prestigious event could take hope the tiny fish that swam at each table.

I can’t wait for next year’s Holiday Embrace! Hope to see you there!

On a cold December afternoon, some of us felt it was right to curl up in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate. Unlike most of us, a few Lane Tech Key Clubbers zipped up their puffy winter jackets and headed to Brickyard Mall to help KISS-FM stuff a bus with toys for underprivileged children. Little did they know, the popular group Far East Movement was there to help them, too! It was a phenomenal experience working together with Far East Movement to help children during this holiday season, no matter how cold it was! Feel the need to help out your community; you might just meet a few famous faces!

Zoo Lights, hosted by Lincoln Park Zoo, turned out be a very fun, beautiful event. Lane Tech Key Clubbers made crafts with young children while looking at the appealing lights put together by the Lincoln Park Zoo staff. Annually, Key Club is there to help them out, and plans to do so in the future!

Named after a president’s father who actively participated in Lane Tech Key Club, the annual Joe Iacullo Canned Food Drive proved to be another success! Signed out of class on the last day before break, Key Clubbers eagerly showed up early to school and diligently packed cans into boxes and stacked them away neatly. These cans would later be picked up and transported to local kitchens. It was amazing to witness members work together so well to make this a smooth, easy process. In the end, Lane Tech students and staff donated 12, 553 cans. Good job guys!

To get into the holiday spirit, Lane Tech Key Club hosted its first annual Jingle Mingle. The Jingle Mingle provided a chance for members to get to know each other and learn more about the club’s purpose. Along with a fun learning experience, members picked up their long-awaited t-shirts, certificates, membership cards, and fundraising chocolate boxes.

To add on to this bundle of fun, members along with officers grouped together to play entertaining games such as Taboo, Karaoke, and “What 5 Things Would You Bring If You Were Stranded On An Island?”.

Lucky members who attended the Jingle Mingle participated in a raffle. Eight lucky members won iTunes gift cards or an iPod Shuffle

At the crack of dawn, amazing Key Club members along with officers Safa and Veronica worked the Hot Chocolate Race at Grant Park. It was a cold November morning, but Key Clubbers never let anyone down!

Lane Tech Key Club partnered with our school’s National Honors Society to organize the annual eighth grade open house, serving the purpose of convincing 8th graders to come to the best high school in Chicago: Lane Tech. Key Clubbers served food to the hard working tour guides who showed the school about four times! Good job!

Such rigorous preparation paid off since our semi-annual blood drive of three days was an enormous success! A large amount of blood was collected.

Equally important are the efforts of students who volunteered to help out with the blood drive by signing people in, directing students where to go, serving blood donors snacks and water, and cleaning the tables where blood donors rested.

Each volunteer took pride in their work, and our sponsor, Life Source, was impressed with the dedication of our Key Clubbers.

The sponsor said he cannot wait for the next blood drive to see once again how wonderful our organization is!

Kiwanis Luncheon November 2010

A good Key Club is aware of its many branches. Lane Tech Key Club, as an example, keeps in touch with is fellow Kiwanis Family.

On November 23rd, people who have been part of Key Club for many years have visited Lane Tech for an important lunch together with our eager Lane Tech Key Club officers.

We officers greeted our visitors with much enthusiasm and interest in what role they play in Key Club. We also had the chance to serve our fellow family delicious food which they enjoyed very much. Many important aspects of Key Club were discussed, along with solutions to any problems.

The Kiwanis Luncheon was a great success, and we eagerly anticipate the next one!

Fatima Sabanovic, Kathleen Jenkins, and Sarah Hanses are only three of many Key Club members who eagerly decided to collect money to save babies, a project that began little than a month ago. Our Key Club collected many baby bottles filled with change. We plan on continuing this fundraiser in the future, so stay updated!

Lane Tech Key Club is hosting its semi-annual blood drive with Life Source from November 8th until November 10th. In the meantime, Lane Tech Key Clubbers gave up their lunch periods to help register willing blood donors. Anna Pukala pictured above claims that she is “amazed at how many wonderful people are willing to donate blood at our school”. Other members, such as Bohdana Bahriy and Aleksandra Bursac, pictured below, believe that “the blood drive is a great way to raise Key Club awareness in our school”. Blood drive registration continues until November 5th.

On a cold and windy morning on Halloween, Lane Tech Key Clubbers woke up bright and early to help out at the 23rd annual Trick-or-Treat Trot at Montrose Harbor. Our duties ranged from passing out bagels and water to runners to guiding runners where to go.

Some Key Clubbers, such as Alexander Prazuch, Magdalena Mastalerz, Dominica Duda, and Artur Glowinski, dressed up in spirit of the holiday.

            Awesome job you guys!

Lane Tech Key Club: Thank you so much for collecting money to help the children in Uruguay! By collecting spare change from family members, friends, and classmates, you made trick-or-treating with UNICEF a wonderful success here at Lane. The boxes are due Wednesday, November 3rd, but we already have a large quantity of boxes turned in by you! Thank you so much! You guys are amazing and, we are sure that the kids in Uruguay will have a smile on their faces thanks to your generosity!

On October 22nd, a few of our Key Club members gave up their day off from school to lend a helping hand to our Lane Tech English Department.

Members received service hours for diligently helping the English Department with their tasks.

Thank you!

Lane Tech Key Club partnered with Loyola’s Circle K (the college level of Key Club) in a community effort to teach children safety tips while trick-or-treating.LT Key Clubbers dressed in their favorite costumes as they help set up for the popular event. It was a lot of fun to see the little kids dress up as well…very adorable actually! The event was a success, and Key Club plans to partner with Loyola Circle K in the near future. Good job!

Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2010

Lane Tech Key Club watched with amazement as 30,000 runners ran the Chicago Marathon on 10-10-10! We cheered on the runners with our signs, voices, balloons, and bells.

RTCs Inspire Lane Tech Key Club

On October 3rd, Lane Tech Key Club officers attended the Regional Training Conference at Hinsdale High School. All of the forums taught us a lot of useful way to make our Key Club better. We incorporated a lot of the things we learned into our officer discussion and our first members' meeting. Thanks I-I!

Elvis is Alive 5K 2010

Isn’t it always extremely fun to see impersonators of Elvis? It’s intriguing and fun to watch. Key Club had the opportunity to witness such entertainment in August while volunteering at the “Elvis is Alive” 5K. Race.

 Kiwanis Peanut Day 2010

Most students would prefer to sleep in on their first day off from school…but not Key Club members! Kiwanis Peanut Day called for many volunteers to collect money for Kiwanis’s local charities. Key Club members did an amazing job collecting money for nine hours, from 7AM until 4 PM! Great job guys!

Walk to Empower 2010

By Kathleen Jenkins

On May 9, 2010, several Lane Tech Key Clubbers joined together sporting lovely yellow volunteer shirts at the annual 2010 Walk to Empower. We were stationed at the runner registration tent, where nearly hundreds of runners came to claim their bibs. It was very heartwarming seeing the many people who came that early in the morning to participate in the fight against breast cancer. I am proud to report that it was a successful event. Thank you to all the LT Key Club members that helped during the event!

C4 Miles Run & Walk-Making Strides For Mental Health

By Magdalena Mastalerz

Like the Walk for Autism, the C4 Miles Run & Walk caused Key Club Members to make strides for mental health in a different way than the runners had. Instead of actually striding, LT Key Club helped the C4 organization by setting up for the walk and run, pouring water into cups, sorting bagels from bananas, cleaning up the park area, and setting up garbage cans in convenient areas for the active runners. It was beautiful to see the hundreds of dedicated runners, ranging from eight to eighty years old, work their leg muscles for such a worthy cause, especially since the state of Illinois itself is considering making budget cuts in regards to mental health. Please visit our Key Club website to get information on how to help prevent such budget cuts, found in the “Announcements” section.

            Keep it up Key Club!

Walk for Autism

By Magdalena Mastalerz

“Bright and early!” is a phrase most teenagers dread to hear. However, for Key Club, “bright and early!” would only mean waking up at four o’clock in the morning to volunteer you heart out. On May 15th, LT Key Club Members rushed to Chicago’s famous Soldier Field to walk and volunteer for a widely known cause: autism. According to Autism Society, Autism is a “complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first two years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills".  Key Club members walked for autism, and as they did so, they had the chance to see how many people cared to fight for this disorder. It was truly touching to see families gathering together shouting meaningful messages and carrying supportive posters. Even athletes showed up at the walk, including the Northwestern College basketball team. The scorching hot sun did not stop anybody from walking on the trail.Causes such as autism, cancer, and other disabilities amazingly bring people together to support and fight for help to cure the illnesses that many people suffer from all over the world, and Key Club will always be there!

 Goodbye Seniors!

Goodbyes are always difficult, especially when they involve people who made a difference, such as our very own Key Club Seniors, members and officers. We held a senior breakfast on May 26 to thank and wish good luck to our seniors in college and future plans. It's very evident that they worked so hard to make Key Club such a special organization! We appreciate everything you have done.

Fun & Games at the Carnival!

Lane Tech students love the month of May, especially when the time comes for Lane Tech's annual carnival. However, an amazing carnival takes a lot of hard work. No worries! Lane Tech Key Club was there to help! Members eagerly sought to volunteer at the carnival by taking different shifts on May 28-31. The carnival was a great success, thanks in part to the many Key Clubbers who lent a hand! Great job!

Key Club Helps Out with the Re-Dedication of Memorial Garden

On May 14th, diligent Key Clubbers ditched their normal attire for black pants and white shirts for a special event taking place at Lane Tech, the re-dedication of the Memorial Garden. Our school had many visitors, and Key Club made sure that everything ran smoothly. Members of the club offered help with setting up the event, as well as serving refreshments to the many people who attended this important event. Afterwards, Key Club had its own taste of the delicious food served at the event! Good job Key Club, and keep up the good work!

60th Annual I-I District Key Club Convention

Posted by Key Club on Sunday, April 18, 2010

“Service is forever”, a phrase constantly emphasized at District Convention (D-Con), taking place in Decatur, Illinois from April 9-11, 2010. This quote holds significant meaning for previous and, especially, current Key Club members, as they gathered at Decatur Conference Center and Hotel.

D-Con serves the purpose of educating oneself more on the objects of Key Club and how you can better yourself as a Key Club member. D-con is a truly inspirational event that each Key C...

Working at the North Park Village Nature Center was an experience that caused me to appreciate the beauty of nature. Lane Tech High School Key Club volunteers worked with other volunteers both young and old to help remove buck weed from the park grasslands. We then put the buck weed in a large metal can and disposed the buck weed by burning the can’s contents. Robert Porter, the Chicago Park Dis...

8th Grade Luncheon
June 18, 2009
By Kathleen Jenkins

LANE TECH “Congratulations, you have been accepted into Lane Technical College Prep High School…” I am positive many of Lane’s students can confirm that receiving that acceptance letter brought an instant relief of joy and excitement. But of course these feelings also came with tension and apprehension, but to my attention it seemed to have alleviated during the 8th grade luncheon/Freshman Kick-Off Day on Thursday, June 18, 2009.
